Since 2001, EDF Luminus has been committed to research into sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for wind power generation. Today Luminus is considered a major and vital player in wind energy in Belgium.
The largest developer in onshore wind energy
Thanks to the considerable technological progress made in recent years, the generation of electricity by means of wind turbines allows our country to contribute to the Kyoto agreements and European Union objectives.
Do you want to learn more about the locations of our wind farms?
A booming activity
Between 2015 and 2018, EDF Luminus will invest €600 million mainly in wind power and energy services. EDF Luminus has submitted permit applications for the production of more than 140 MW of additional wind turbines and has close to 600 MW in development.
Strict conditions for the right location
EDF Luminus designs projects with respect for the environment, the landscape and above all the residents. EDF Luminus attaches great importance to maintaining good relations with the municipalities, provinces and regions where the wind farms are located, to minimise the impact on the people concerned.
Wherever possible, we abide by stricter restrictions than those imposed by the government, in particular with regard to the distance between the wind turbines and houses. Our wind turbines are equipped with the latest technologies. Consequently, they generate a lot of energy yet create virtually no noise nuisance to local residents.
The location of a new wind farm also has to meet other strict criteria:
a windy location
connection to the electricity grid is possible
no hindrance to aviation
can coexist with the natural environment and human activities (Natura 2000 areas, microwave transmission, etc.)
Finally, the safety of the wind turbines is a priority for EDF Luminus. We impose strict certification requirements on manufacturers, and permanently monitor compliance with all applicable standards.
Involve private individuals in the wind power projects
EDF Luminus would like to see private individuals involved in the development and operation of wind power projects. The cooperative company with limited liability EDF Luminus Wind Together (SCRL/CVBA) has been created to raise a cooperative capital that will be invested in several renewable energy projects.
