The 7 hydroelectric power stations supply approx. 60,000 Belgian households. This makes EDF Luminus the biggest hydropower operator in Belgium.
EDF Luminus, the largest hydropower operator in Belgium
EDF Luminus' first hydroelectric power station in Ivoz-Ramet near Liège was commissioned over half a century ago. It was the first of seven hydroelectric power stations; 6 are located on the Lower Meuse between Namur and the Dutch border, and the seventh station is located on the Sambre.
decrease in CO2 emissions thanks to the power stations
To optimise coordination, all our hydroelectric power stations are controlled and monitored from one control room in Ivoz-Ramet. This way, our staff can closely follow the functioning of each station, which results in increased sustainable energy production and improved safety.
Renovation of the hydroelectric power stations for optimised production
To increase the efficiency of certain power stations, renovation and modernisation projects may be decided upon. As such, 2 of the 3 turbines of the power station in Andenne were replaced in 2015 to increase the site’s efficiency while fully exploiting the power.
Two new and more efficient turbines were installed in the Lixhe power station, facilitating the harnessing of the natural flow of the Meuse river. In addition, the electrical installations were renovated and the control system of the machinery was modernised.
